Romania lies in south - eastern part of Central Europe at equal distance between the Pole and Equator. The neighbors of Romania are : Moldavia Republic in E, Ukraine in N, Hungary in W, Serbia in SW, Bulgaria in S, and Black Sea in SE. The surface of 238 391 km2 present a great variety of relief. Statistic shows: 31% mountains- Carpathians and Macini mountains; 36% hills and plateau- Transylvanian, Getic, Mehedinti, Dobrudja and Moldavia plateau; 33 % planes- Romania Plane, West, Banat and Moldavia planes; meadows- Danube Delta and Braila Island. The Carpathians Mountains are more then 2500m alt., glacial lakes, mysterious woods, strange rocks, amazing caves and gorges. God arranged this relief in a perfect harmony and people was grateful, placing beautiful villages and towns, churches and monasteries, some well-known around the world, all in the same harmony with nature. Also Romania means 244 km Black Sea Coast line, big rivers: Danube River, Tisa, Somes, Cris, Mures, Timis, Jiu, Olt, Arges, Ialomita, Buzau, Siret, Prut; many lakes (naturals or artificial), situated in very picturesque places. One of the biggest artificial lake in Europe is " Portile de Fier (The Iron Gates)" on Danube River. The abundance of vegetation, flora and fauna is everywhere. The biggest colony of pelicans and the higher density of birds from Europe are in Danube Delta. The oldies forests from Europe are in Rarau Mountains and many other aspects waiting to be discovered The climate is temperate - continental with four seasons: winter, spring, summer, autumn. Winter is a cold season with snow, winds and temperature under 0° C. Is time for ski and other winter sports. Spring means flowers, rains, but in the mountains spring came later, in April or may. Summer is the best season for trips: sunny days, short stormy rains, flowers, birds and beach warm. The autumn is the season of warm colors. Great for hiking and trekking in the nature. The markets are full with natural products.
Romania are about 22 mil. people, includes Romanians, Hungarians, Gypsies, Armenians, Ukrainians, Serbian's, Germans, Jews ... . People from Romania are very friendly, anytime ready to help you. With the Latin origin, the same as the Italian, the Spanish or the French people, a people with many traces in history, belief and a wide range of folk traditions. The spoken language is Romanian. The national currency is the "leu", currency freely convertible at any exchange office. Romania is a democratic republic with president and Parliament elected by citizens. The capital of the country is the city of Bucharest, the most important city of the country, with over 2,3 million inhabitants. Other large cities with tourist potential are: Constanta (the largest port at the Black Sea, an open port for summer travel in the Black Sea resorts), Brasov (medieval city surrounded by beautiful mountains landscapes), Iasi (Iassy) (an important cultural city, the oldest academic center from Romania), Timisoara (multi- ethnical city , many festivals are here all the year), Cluj (important academic center, with a powerful cultural life), Sibiu (a beautiful medieval city), Oradea (preserve a lovely baroque centre), Galati (the biggest port of the Danube), Craiova, Bacau, Targu-Mures, Deva, Alba-Iulia, Arad.
